The Japanese Facial

I have to say that my all time favorite treatments are facials. I’m always amazed at how my skin feels after a facial, so soft! One of the new treatments at the Ranch is the Japanese Facial that focuses on Japanese massage techniques and improving circulation, which is essential for glowing skin.

The facial took place at the Villas Health Center, a beautiful building where most of the Ranch’s spa treatments are done. The Villas Health Center features sunlit hallways with beautiful Mexican art, herb and lemon infused water to cool down from the warm weather and a sauna, steam room and hot tub along with a gorgeous outside deck  on the second floor. What a serene place to relax in and receive a treatment!

Mona was my aesthetician and started out by applying the Soothing Cleanser and Purifying Face Polish by Amala. All the products by Amala smelled divine! Mona did a wonderful job, taking the time to delicately massage my face, focusing on certain massage techniques that seemed to lift my skin and were stimulating yet relaxing at the same time. Not only did my skin feel soft and smooth afterwards, but my facial muscles seemed more toned as well. The facial emphasized Japanese massage techniques, which I loved – it was my favorite part!

By the end of the facial, I felt totally relaxed and my skin was super soft with a bright glow. Mona also applied Amala’s Purifying Moisturizer, Hydrating Eye Treatment, Coola Suncare SPF 30 and Soothing Lip Balm. I felt like a million bucks afterwards.

I had the 50 minute facial, but there is also an 80 minute option with extended facial massage, eye-area treatment experience and extractions (if needed.)  I highly recommend this facial for anyone who’s looking for a gentle way to plump up, lift and brighten their skin!

Blissful Pedicure

A friend of mine asked, why does a pedicure need to be 90 minutes long?  And to that I answer, why would you ask such a thing?  Why is the sky blue?  Why do we breathe?  Why is the Blissful Pedicure 90 minutes?  Because it feels amazing!  Need I say more?

Oh, but I will.  First things first.   The absolute important first step you must do is choose which scented candle you would like to enjoy during the pedicure.  This candle is made completely of oils and beeswax and was used for the leg massage later, which was heavenly!  I chose coconut mint, and it might be one of the best things I’ve smelled in my entire life.  I’m not kidding.

Next is a little stroll on the reflexology path.  Take your time with this.  It’s meant to be somewhat of a meditation.  Deep breaths and good thoughts to get you relaxed.  Afterwards you’ll be taken inside where you get to soak your feet in hot water steeping with rose petals…ahhhh.  Then the actual pedicure begins with the normal procedures and this is your time to just sit back and relax which is exactly what I did.  After being busy all the time and on my feet, there is nothing quite like being pampered.  Is there?

After your feet look all pretty and cleaned up, it’s time for the reflexology massage.  Reflexology is an alternative medicine that utilizes pressure points on your feet corresponding with different organs in the body.  You will realize how much tension is actually held in our feet during this.  It’s quite a release!  Think of it as a deep tissue foot’s massage.  It’s a strong massage, but so worth it.

And they save the best for last.  Using the warm bee’s wax from the coconut mint candle, Gabriella massaged my legs and feet.  Best thing ever.  Between the coconut scent, the warmness of the oil and the relaxing massage, I was in heaven.  But it wasn’t over.  This was 90 minutes, remember?  After the massage, my feet and calves were covered in a large heat pack and towels and I was left there to relax or fall asleep.  Love, love, love the heat pack!

Last, but not least is the final part of the pedicure; painted toes and beautiful feet.  I must say, this is hands down the best pedicure I’ve ever had.  I would gladly take use 90 minutes of my life to do this again.  Well spent, if you ask me.

The Energy Balance Massage

The Energy Balance Massage…my first one at the Ranch! Aracelia was my massage therapist. She was adorable and tiny.  She only reached up to my shoulder (and I’m only 5’3), but strong!

This massage is one of the Ranch’s most popular, however I didn’t know much about it. It was a surprise. First I spent some time relaxing in the women’s lounge in one of those big fluffy chairs with the blankets? You know what I’m talking about. I could have easily fell asleep (that room is so relaxing), but luckily Arcelia came and got me for the massage. She led me down the serene hallway with Mexican tile and soft music playing in the background to a little quaint room lit with candles.

This is what the Energy Balance Massage consists of:

“Experience an amazing Holistic Therapy that opens and cleanses energy canals to relax, muscles and ease emotions. Helps to free of any negative energy that may be limiting your mind and spirit.  Cleanses your Aura and balances your chakras.

A blend of Orange Blossom and a Mexican lotion, patchouli incense, Olive Oil, Native fresh herbs from our gardens.  An Altar Ritual that includes pink, white, and purple candles; a Tree of Life, and the 5 elements (water, earth, fire, metal and air).”

The massage began with her working the reflexology points on my feet which felt amazing! I love foot massages, they’re my favorite. What I especially loved about the Energy Balance massage was that nothing seemed rushed. She spent so much time on my feet which desperately needed it and then moved on to the legs, arms, shoulders, head…it was heavenly and seemed to last forever. After the actual massage, I was brushed with damp herbs which was extremely refreshing and was then left to relax or fall asleep.

I love that it was 90 minutes and that the pace was not in haste at all. That’s my biggest complaint with most massages. Plus Arcelia was amazing! I felt so refreshed afterwards. My muscles that usually feel sore from sitting at a computer too long or sore from working out desperately needed this!
